The rewards of a youth empowerment approach in high-poverty communities are significant.
Youth empowerment is of good importance to both nations and the empowered. With youth empowerment, the future prosperity of nations is secured because these are the people that are, and will take care of many offices and functions in the country. I meant that there are youths who are running many managerial functions in many institutes. There are also those who are going to manage top offices in the future in accordance with the popular statement “the youths are the leaders of tomorrow”.
Some benefits of youth empowerment:
· Healthy nation
· Empowered and skilled youth
· Prosperity
· Innovation
· Entrepreneurship
· Internal Harmony and Peace
· Employment
· National development
· Transparent social and political systems
· Educated Public
· Social and economic development
· Less dependability on government by YOUTH communities
· Voice on youth issues effectively
· Resolve youth issues and advocate them at local and international level
Some would say that as idyllic as it sounds- to empower youth, it is not that easy as parents, community leaders and teachers to foster this sense of ownership and leadership in children. Some might even wonder how can we put our future into the hands of tweens and teens, whose ideas span from the simple lemonade stand to lofty dreams that are ridden with logistical complications.
The answer is simple- we simply let them “do.” We let them dream and think. We give our youth the tools to collaborate and problem solve, brainstorm and reflect. We empower them to believe that their voice matters without judging or criticizing their ideas.
