Amazon.com and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos has awarded two $100 million prizes as his inaugural braveness and civility awards, the Unbiased experiences.

Introduced at a press convention following the primary crewed house flight of Bezos’s Blue Origin rocket ship, which carried Bezos and three fellow passengers, the prizes will acknowledge “leaders who intention excessive, pursue options with braveness, and all the time achieve this with civility.” The inaugural prizes — which Bezos described as a brand new philanthropic initiative — had been awarded to activist Van Jones, who served as founding CEO of the REFORM Alliance and Dream Corps, and chef and humanitarian José Andrés, who established World Central Kitchen, which gives meals within the rapid aftermath of disasters.

Jones advised the Unbiased that the funds could be redirected to attach grassroots organizations with “the geniuses who need to disrupt” a wide range of industries to allow them to look to disrupt poverty and different issues dealing with the world. Andrés mentioned he was “honored” and “actually grateful” for the funding, which can help World Central Kitchen.

“Generally desires come true,” Jones mentioned in the course of the press convention. “And the headlines all over the world needs to be ‘something is feasible when you imagine’.”

“This award can’t feed the world by itself,” added Andrés. “However this award is the beginning of a brand new chapter for us. It’ll permit us to suppose past the following hurricane to the larger challenges we face.…Now could be the time to suppose actually large.”
